Questions readers ask

Why can semaglutide change how other pills work?

Semaglutide slows gastric emptying, which may shift how oral medications are absorbed. This matters most for narrow-therapeutic-index drugs and oral contraceptives, so tell your prescriber about every medication you take.

Is it safe to take semaglutide with insulin or a sulfonylurea?

Combining semaglutide with insulin or a sulfonylurea raises the risk of hypoglycemia, and the dose of the other medicine may need adjusting. Severe hypoglycemia is listed as a rare but serious risk with this co-use.

How should Rybelsus be timed around other medications?

Take Rybelsus on an empty stomach with no more than 120 mL of water, at least 30 minutes before any other oral medication. Taking other pills too soon can interfere with how the tablet is absorbed.
