What it means for semaglutide patients
The 2026 letter names a specific semaglutide product, semaglutide with cyanocobalamin (B12). FDA’s April 1, 2026 policy says a semaglutide-plus-B12 product within 10% of an approved strength may count as essentially a copy. If your label says Empower and lists B12, ask your prescriber whether the formulation is one FDA named and what happens if supply changes.
The rest of the record
The April 2, 2025 letters went to both sites: 700964 to the 503A pharmacy over insanitary sterile conditions, and 700962 to the 503B facility over repeated manufacturing-practice failures. Empower also recalled one pyridoxine lot in September 2024. Eli Lilly’s lawsuit against Empower in Texas is partly dismissed; some claims continue.
How to check any compounding pharmacy
Read the pharmacy name on your vial label, look it up with the board of pharmacy in your state, check FDA’s outsourcing-facility list if it claims 503B status, and search FDA’s warning-letter database by name. Our 503A vs 503B guide explains the difference.
Questions about Empower Pharmacy
Is semaglutide from Empower FDA-approved?
No. Compounded drugs are never FDA-approved. Empower’s 503B facility is FDA-registered and inspected, which is a different thing from approval.
Is Empower still operating?
Yes. As of October 14, 2026 FDA had issued warning letters, not a shutdown order, and we found no close-out letter for the September 2026 letter.
